  • everytime i think about the interview i get this nervous feeling in my tummy.  they said they'll let me know by the end of next week.  that makes for a very long week.  ack.  can't they just pull names out of a hat?  the randomness of it would be less stress.

plus, glori told me that they are mailing out letters about the thacher gallery student show--which i think means that something of mine got accepted, otherwise she wouldn't tell me, right?

here are the things i submitted:

    1) Meditating on the Anunciation.  2003.
Corrugated cardboard, hot glue, and masking tape, 11x12x10".

    2) Thirty-One Self-Portraits:  March 2003.  2003.
    Acrylic on Index Cards, 32x40".

I really hope both of them got in.  But I know it will be a pain to buy a frame for the second one.  ay yah.  but having to by a frame and actually having one (or more_ of my pieces appear in our library's art gallery--that would be so cool.

  • went to my interview.  i think it went pretty okay.  kimberly (my supervisor) wanted to see me all growed-up, so i didn't change.  louie dropped me off after we ate at mel's--they're onion rings are so good--and i hung out at the office and talked to kim and tiffany and steinberg about my interview gripes.  then i went and picked up my cap and gown (ahhhck!) and ordered some personalized announcements (i kinda screwed up the complimentary ones by writing on the cards by hand with a caligraphy pen that sucks because it's cheap because dumb me forgot that i coulda just used a typewriter or written it nicely with a nicer pen) and ordered a class ring (dayam those are expensive! thank goodness for the $60 off thingie).  they spelled "theresa" "teresa" so i tried to go fix it except the graduation center was closed so i guess i'll have to go back on Monday to get that fixed.  i get a cool gold sash and on my name card, in red, block, caps, stamped letters it says "summa cum laude"; so i guess they're going to announce it.  yay me!  yay nerddom!  i was wearing big four inch clunkers because i didn't have time to hem my pants--or maybe i was too lazy.  i thought my friend was going to go to the regalia event at the same time as my other friend and i, but she had work to do and she was feeling sick so she didn't, and she's the one that drives.  so i walked four blocks downhill in my big shoes and i paused every now and then to rest the the balls of my feet--I'm walking funny right now, the weight shifts to the outsides of my feet, as in the opposite side of the instep/arch--and then i'd skip and kinda can-can except straight ahead and not across the other leg and bounced from foot to foot while i was walking.  it probably looked funny.  a girl in a black pantsuit--on a fairly warm day--caring a little brown purse, a plastic Follet bookstore bag in the other, and wearing a pink and gray backpack, while she did a variation of the can can down parker street.  i wore my cool grayscale stocking with the palm trees and pineapples and lady in a 50s bathing suit talking to a surfer guy.  only people who i showed it to saw it.

  • i have an interview on friday--it's at 9:30am.
first, wish that i wake up on time.  then, wish that i get it!

i'm not reall sure what to wear... what do you guys think?

    Outift one.

outfit two--my face looks funny. oh yeah, the shoe straps wouldn't really stick out like that.  i was just too lazy to buckle them.  =P

outfit three.  again what's with the funny facial expressions?

oh yeah, did ya notice that i'm wearing pink in all of them???

  • people have been telling me that i'm a good teacher... so maybe, i just might.

i nailed the practice CBEST that they have online and did not-so-hot on the practice GRE--wait, I killed on the math section.  what's up with that??? i'm a fricken' ENGLISH major!  booooooo!  and ever since elementary school, i've always screwed up on the reading comprehension section... and yet, I ROCK all my lit classes.  damn tests.

got a rejection letter from one of the jobs i applied for @ USF.  it's all good though because i've been thinking... do i really want to spend my time before grad school as a secretary?  there's still another program assistant position from which i haven't heard.

i'm applying for Americorps!!!  and i'm thinking of maybe getting a teaching credential from sfstate.  and then i'll get my mfa.  or something.  ohmigosh,  i'm actually thinking of teaching high school!  which i thought i would never want to do.  but it's actually not so bad.  i guess that's what going out and getting experience is all about.  but mostly, i've been wanting to teach at the JC level.  i think i decided that near the beginning of college.  i guess we'll see.

hey--how current do CBEST scores have to be to get your teaching credentials?  and how current do GRE's have to be to go to grad school?  maybe i'll just buy me some study books.

  • one of the cool things about spring break is being able to cook.

for dinner on monday night, we ate steamed salmon steaks and garlic cheddar mashed potatoes with steamed vegetables.

for breakfast yesterday morning, we had spinach and cheese scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, and garlic toast--made with fresh garlic.

this morning we had our traditional nutrishake with soy milk and bananas. lunch was tuna sandwiches and baby carrot with peanut butter. right now i have chicken breasts marinading in balsamic vinegar, garlic, and this maruchan marinade; there's also a bowl of mushrooms, green onions, and eggplant in the fridge soaking up virgin olive oil and white wine.

another cool thing? being able to severely pace myself with it comes to homework... which, since it's already wednesday, might just sneak up on me. so i think that after i clean the bathroom, i'll hit the books again.

i don't wanna get up early tomorrow!!! ahhh! i have to be at this school in the mission by 9am. it takes an hour (by bus) to get there, which means i have to be at the bus stop (which is about 4 short blocks away from where i live) by 8am. i guess i better try to sleep early tonight.

and yet another cool thing about spring break--getting my fill of xanga!

  • at the beginning of the year i went through my planner and louie and i chose 4 random date days.  today was the first one and luckily the swelling of my eyelid went down enough for me not to feel so much like quasimodo, though it still feels like my eyelid is drooping over my eyeball.

we were originally going out for joe's ice cream (soo good!!!) and i wanted to stop by Green Apple so i could use the gift certificate that steinberg and professor fung gave me for christmas.  we ended up spending over two hours there.  the spoils of walking around in 3-inch slip-on heels:  a mini-book of fairy tales based on the Grimms, an Alice in Wonderland pop-up book (the illustration sooo rocks!) that was 20% off, a "cook everything" cookbook, a "worse case scenario survival guide" planner (that was only $1.98!!!!), a nifty notepad with a 40s lady and an open fridge full of food that says "cook your own damn dinner" on the cover, a set of "funny bunny" notecards and envelopes, and a parenting book for michelle & david.  louie bought "50 things you're not supposed to know" (which includes such facts as one of the popes wrote an erotic book), "the book of bunny suicides" (which includes an image of a cartoon sketch bunny that attached himself to the back of samurai committing seppuku), and "neverwhere" by sandman creator, neil gaiman.

we nixed on the ice cream and ate dinner at straight's cafe (right by our apartment; it's a singaporean restaurant & bar)--it was a pretty snazzy place (claire & micah, i was talking to louie about maybe taking you guys there because it feels all grown up and stuff--when are you coming back to visit anyway?  during your spring break??) with nice lighting and wine glasses on the tables.  oh!  the dessert!  i ordered warm chocolate cake, it had an orange truffle center and vanilla bean ice cream on top, and it looked so pretty with sliced strawberries and cinnamon dust around the edges and cream and chocolate, caramel and strawberry syrup decorating the bottom of the plate.  if i had a camera, i would've taken a picture!
