  • yesterday there was a shooting down the street
    & around the corner from my school
    (where i work).  this happened less than 10
    minutes before classes got out.  i'd never heard
    (semi?)automatic gunfire in real life and i didn't
    know what it was until i saw people run down
    the street away from where the sounds came
    from.  thank God the kids were still in class
    because we were able to keep them all in the
    school building until after things "calmed" down.
    you can probably find more info on it online;
    there were news vans & 'copters around the
     school.  look up "mission shooting" or something;
    i'm too drained right now to find out what went
    down.

  • A man was in critical condition Tuesday night after an afternoon shootout in the Mission District left three people wounded, including an innocent bystander, according to police.

    The shootout between two carloads of young men started at 2:40 p.m. in front of Rolling Stock, a tire and rim shop on the 600 block of South Van Ness Avenue.

    One group was in an orange Chevrolet Camaro, which escaped the scene. Another was in a white Chevrolet Impala, which was left behind.

    Police say the shootout appears to have resulted from a turf dispute between two groups from the Western Addition.

    At least two people were taken into custody and police were searching for the orange Camaro, according to San Francisco police Sgt. Neville Gittens.

    The names of those arrested were not immediately released.

    After he was shot, one of the victims ran east on South Van Ness Avenue, stumbling into A&A Auto Parts at 611 Van Ness. After asking owner Mike Gomez to call 911, he "got a little dizzy," Gomez said, and sat down on a case of motor oil.

    "He tipped over and lay on the floor," said Gomez. "We told him not to move until the ambulance got there."

    Mission District Station Sgt. Larry Gray said it was "horrible" that someone with no involvement in the fight was hit by a bullet.

    "In the Mission District we have problems with our own gangs. We don't need gangs from other areas coming to visit us," he said.

    Witness Jesse Escalante, who lives across the street from Rolling Stock, said the rim shop attracts crowds of young men who frequently hang out in front working on their cars.

    "They are out there every night drinking and yelling and hollering," he said. "I have to close my damn windows."

    Gomez said A&A Auto Parts was busy with customers when the wounded man walked in. He said the incident didn't surprise him in the least.

    "I've been in this neighborhood for 42 years," he said. "I've seen a lot."

  • I still remember when there was a shooting way back at my middle school.  Needless to say, the whole school erupted in a panic.  I don't remember the details though, but I recall seeing the guy walking along, gun in hand, firing somewhere.

    It's like seeing the stuff on TV and in movies is one thing, but actually experiencing it is quite another.

  • Good thing u're safe! Did you tell mom? U think she'd freak & worry bout u being there?
